There are many (really, MANY) companies out there that provide some pretty sophisticated tracking tools for social media. Most of them cost money, though.  So if you have to boot-strap, here are a list of tools I’ve used. You can use some of this and make yourself  scorecard of indicators (the value of those indicators will be determined by your goals). I’m still looking around for good and free syndication tracking tools (something that you can see how content gets shared across the net). Got more suggestions? Please share.

ALERTS (get alerts for people mentioning the term/brand/name)

COUNT (track a numeric value associated with mentions/followers)

You can also try http://www.estimix.com – a free tool that provides a nice summary of the website performance. The estimation provided by estimix is the result of a complex analysis based on factors like: the age of the website, the demographic structure of the traffic, the countries where the website is popular and sources of the traffic.
